Silicate facade ORMAL SILICATE 1.5, 2.0 mm
1. Description, use
SILICATE FACADES are thin-layer noble facades made on the basis of potassium water glass with a characteristic evenly grained surface, intended for decorative protection of facade and interior wall surfaces. They are characterized by good adhesion to all types of finely rough construction substrates: to mineral basic facades of facade thermal insulation systems, to classic fine lime, lime-cement and cement facades, and to smooth concrete surfaces, etc.
In addition to high strength, they are also characterized by non-flammability and high vapor permeability. Good resistance to the effects of flue gases, UV rays and other atmospheric agents ensures their durability in any climatic conditions, we do not recommend them for facade surfaces of tall buildings heavily exposed to precipitation and with minimal overhangs. The treated surfaces are provided with long-term resistance to infection by wall algae and mold, so the addition of biocidal ingredients before installation is not necessary.

3. Substrate preparation
The substrate must be finely rough, firm, dry and clean, free of loose particles, dust, salt, grease stains and other impurities. Minor irregularities – bumps and depressions – make it difficult to smooth the installed facade, so we should pay as much attention to the preparation of the substrate as possible.

2. Preparation of the mortar mixture
Mixtures for installation Stir the mortar mixture well before use with a hand-held electric mixer, and if necessary (only exceptionally) dilute it with water (up to a maximum of 1%). Any “correction” of the mortar mixture during installation (adding tinting agents, dilution, etc.) is not permitted.
Apply the mortar mixture manually – with a stainless steel trowel – or mechanically, by spraying, in a thickness slightly greater than the diameter of the thickest sand grain. When applying by spraying, follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the machinery. Immediately after application, smooth the facade surface with circular strokes with a hard, smooth plastic trowel. Smooth in circular strokes until an evenly granular structure is achieved. When smoothing, the grains in the applied mortar layer move very slightly; pushing the mortar mixture in front of the trowel (in the form of a wave) is not permitted. The formation of such a wave can most often be attributed to an excessively thick layer or a poorly prepared, or insufficiently flat surface. The lumps of mortar that protrude from the surface of the facade at the end – a few minutes after smoothing – are pressed into it by lightly smoothing the surface with a clean stainless steel trowel. We carry out the work as quickly as possible – without interruption – from one end edge of the wall to the other. On wall surfaces that extend over several floors, the facade is installed simultaneously on all floors: in this case, we always start applying the facade on the upper floor, and on the lower floors we work with a “stepped gap”. We divide larger wall surfaces into smaller ones with grooves of the appropriate width, mortar borders and other decorations, frames or in some other way, thus avoiding problems that arise during continuous installation of the facade, and the unaesthetic appearance due to an insufficiently flat surface. Surface joints in corners and on edge parts are facilitated by the implementation of finely processed belts a few cm wide, which give the processed surfaces a pleasant aesthetic appearance. Decorative smooth belts, grooves, mortar borders, frames, etc. are usually created before the installation of the decorative facade. We protect them with appropriate wall paints and make sure that the coating we use to process them is not applied uncontrolledly over their edges to the surfaces prepared for the installation of the decorative facade. We install the mortar mixture only in appropriate weather and microclimate conditions: the air and wall substrate temperature must not be lower than +5 ºC and higher than +35 ºC, and the relative humidity must not exceed 80%. We protect the facade surfaces with curtains from the sun, wind and precipitation, and regardless of such protection, we do not apply the facade in rain, fog or strong wind (≥30 km/h).

3. Protection during work

Waste handling, cleaning tools Eye protection with safety glasses or a face shield is only required when applying mortar by spraying; in all other situations, the use of special personal protective equipment or special conditions for safe work are not required. In addition to the general instructions and regulations for occupational safety for construction, facade and painting work, and the information in the safety data sheet, please also observe the following warnings:

4. Storage, transport conditions and shelf life
Storage and transport at a temperature of +5 °C to +25 °C, protected from direct sunlight, DO NOT FREEZE! Shelf life when stored in originally closed and undamaged packaging: at least 12 months.
